Borderlands / The Summit

09 October 2016

Frieze London, London, UK | Website

What can art do in times of emergency? We invite all Frieze London visitors to this special summit to debate the question.

We often look to artists to respond to social and political crises, and our current political climate has no shortage of upheavals to address. Deserts, cities, coasts and seas: these territories are becoming physical and symbolic battle grounds. Are we experiencing a kind of reflex against openness? Why? And what consequences does this tension have on the contemporary art being made today, and on the artists making it? In this participatory, in-the-round summit, we will revisit the previous days’ sessions in the ‘Borderlands’ series, debate proposals and possible solutions, and invite artists and audience members to weigh in on what can be done.

The discussion will include previous participants and artists in Frieze Talks as well as special guests.
